SMALL GRANTS STORIES: SFPE

COVID-19 Response / Articles / 28-09-2023

I founded the electrical parts-manufacturing company SFPE in Sfax in 2007. Our initial aim was to develop our products on the local market, but we had bigger ambitions in mind.

The idea of creating SFPE came after I had worked for a while in an electrical installation company, where I felt a need to diversify my activities and make a greater contribution to the electrical sector. I started SFPE with just 10 employees and a single item on the market, but soon realized that our customers needed a broad range of products.

We gradually added manufacturing of plastic electrical boxes to our product offerings. This decision proved fruitful, and in 2014, we even expanded our facilities to increase production capacity.

SFPE’s growth has created both direct and indirect jobs, depending on demand. As we believe in the value of human resources, we do our best to support our employees, even when we have gone through difficult times, such as the COVID-19 crisis, during which we had to close our factory for three months due to restrictions. Orders plummeted, which led to salary delays. We have made every effort to protect our employees and keep their jobs.

The COVID-19 Business Recovery Grant Fund established by the U.S. government as part of its USAID Tunisia JOBS program enabled us to face these difficult times. It enabled us to invest in a stock of raw materials that was very difficult to obtain during the health crisis. Thanks to this grant, we were able to turn the repercussions of the global transport crisis to our advantage.

Now our initial big ambitions are much closer to reality. We aim to conquer the African market as a whole, starting with the North African market. Our products, such as electrical switches, boxes and enclosures, have become increasingly competitive on the international scene.

SFPE Sfax is more than just a manufacturer of electrical parts. It's a story of determination, diversification, commitment to our employees, and global ambition. We look forward to continuing to grow and contribute to the development of the electrical sector in North Africa and beyond.
